Intimate Black Tie Backyard Wedding

Laurel Canyon, California

From an eccentric 1960’s rock haven to a beautiful intimate home backyard wedding, Laurel Canyon never fails to deliver pure magic.

A chance meeting led us to hire David, and we could not have been happier had it rained puppies. There was nothing that we couldn't ask David to take care of, and if we didn't ask, it was because he had already taken care of it. And most of all, David's smile never left his face.

B & B

This modern architectural home tucked high above Laurel Canyon with glass walls open to lush lawns was the perfect canvas onto which we could create this elegant black-tie wedding.

The first time I saw how the home invited the outside in, I knew precisely how to make the spaces work for what my clients had in mind. With only 20 guests and a seven-course gourmet meal planned, I suggested four things:

  1. Using a natural curve in front of a landscaped hill as the site for the ceremony.

  2. Creating a 24' x 4' table that would appear to be an outdoor extension of the living room.

  3. Building a temporary kitchen with room for plating inside their garage.

  4. Setting up space inside the house and out-of-view from the dinner area for the wedding cake and dancing after dinner.

We then decided not to have artificial lighting, instead relying on the light from rented heaters and pillar candles on the tabletop. All of this together created a beautiful setting and, more importantly, a truly intimate experience for the guests. And that experience was the single most important thing for this couple. Well, that and having their rescue dog serve as their ring-bearer!

Pets as ring-bearers… why not?

Edie of the Canyon, the ring-bearer.
