It was a beautiful October wedding day for Shelby & Andrew and their friends & family from around the world, who came to the California desert for a weekend to celebrate them.

Shelby and Andrew had been together eight years when they hired me to design, plan, and produce their desert wedding. They had booked a private estate in Thermal, CA, for what turned out to be a three-day celebration with friends and family from Japan, the United Kingdom, Scotland, Spain, and New Zealand - where Andrew was from.

One might think that the wedding ceremony would have been the single most important event of the weekend for this couple, but the truth is that they were more focused on their guests' experience, which we had been working on for nine months.

From making Ubers available to having babysitters on hand and accommodating last-minute dietary restrictions, unreasonable hospitality was job no. 1.
