The 10 Best Things in My Wedding Day Kit
Wedding Day Kits can't be bought online or at your local Wedding Planner Supply Store. What's in them varies wildly from one wedding pro to another and is often the result of learning the hard way. I am constantly adding things to my kit, though rarely eliminating items, so my kit now requires the extra-large, long LL Bean Boat and Tote(r) Zip-Top bag, with a slightly smaller version for overflow.
#1 – White Chalk, Stain Remover Pens, Whiteout
There's a reason these are in more Wedding Kits than not, and that's because they work. If the chalk doesn't do it, the pens are excellent, and, as a last resort, there's Whiteout.
#2 - Safety Pins
I was in Mexico for a Destination Wedding I had planned, and it was at the after party when a guest had a mishap with her dress and asked me if I had a safety pin. When I told her I didn't, she sized me up and said, "well, what kind of wedding planner are you if you don't have a safety pin?" Okay, she didn't really say that; she just said, "really?" So now I have 300 of them in a variety of sizes.
#3 – Thin OTC Black Socks
I always pack a garment bag with the clothing I plan on changing from whatever I wear during installations. And over the years, I always throw in extra socks, especially for Black Tie events. Don't ask me why because I don't know. What I do know is that far too many grooms and groomsmen show up without socks. So Kashy, if you're reading this, you don't need to return the socks.
#4 - Swiss Army Knife
Where else can you find a corkscrew, tweezers, toothpick, scissors, knife, bottle opener, nail file, ice pick, and more in one package? Nowhere.
#5 - Tape
Scotch tape: painter's tape: heavy-duty packing tape: plastic tape: double-sided tape: wall-safe tape: reusable, strong sticky wall tape; correction tape; rug gripper tape; colored masking tape; general purpose masking tape; and duct tape. If there's another kind of tape, I'll find it and add it to the kit.
#6 – Heel Guards for Grass
Anyone in heels shouldn't be in danger of sinking into the lawn during a ceremony or reception, especially in their Jimmy Choo's.
#7 – Motion Sensor Spotlights
The $59.99 I spent on this is the best $59.99 I've spent in 2022 (so far). I've used this inside catering tents, late-night Valet stands, and in my garage. It's portable and easy to attach to shelves, poles, fences, and more.
#8 - Static Solution Spray
Along with Crease Release from The Laundress, these two have straightened out more than a few wrinkles for my clients.
#9 - Electric Lighters
These are great until they die right in the middle of lighting 144 pillar candles just before the doors to the reception open. Even with three of these in my bag, I still have gas-powered lighters in my bag, and we always start lighting candles well before the doors open.
#10 - The Macallan
I don't drink while I'm working. However, if I were to, it would be a couple of ounces of The Macallan Sherry Oak 18 Years Old Single Malt over a single ice cube. I would find a nice wall to lean against and watch my clients shred it on the dance floor. And if I did this, hypothetically, of course, it would be just one drink. Boring but very useful.
